As an Anglo-Irish Writer, Maria Edgeworth was influenced by both the cultures of England and Ireland. In Castle Rackrent, she employed the male narrator, Thardy Quirk, to narrate the story of the decaying life of an Irish landlord family and demonstrate the power relationship of gender politics in patriarchal society.
