The de-velopment of cognitive science has shifted their studies from the roles of context and pragmatic principles played in infer-ence to the influence of our brain''s internal workings on in-ferring utterance implicature. As an important approach to human cognition, metonymy is a natural inference schema. The metonymic relations between adjacent objects can easily trigger people''s associative cognition. Therefore, speakers and listeners can accurately infer utterance implicature ac-cording to the metonymic relations among concepts to real-ize their communicative purposes.
