The social economic conditions of their residing country, the economic status of overseas Chinese of Hainan origin, the situation at home and a- broad, the governments＇ policies, the development of modem financial business and the postal trade as well as wars and disasters, etc. were the main factors for the rsie and decline of overseas Chinese remittance busi- ness in Hainan. Overseas Hainanese＇ s remittance was both the main source of life for the relatives of over- seas Hainanese and the economic pillar for their hometowns, which has played a positive role in promoting the social development of overseas Chinese hometowns and in balancing state foreign exchange, etc.
