1 Micro total analysis (μTAS) system vs the three generations of flow injection Appropriate sample pretreatment prior to analysis remains inevitably the bottle neck of the entire analytical procedure with modern instrumentation[1],where flow injection analysis (FIA) has led to sig nificant progress. Flow injection (FI) and sequential injection (SI),termed as the first and the second generations of FIA,have played important roles in the automation and miniaturization of on-line sample pretreatment[2]. While in further downscaling of fluidic control ,the micro total analysis system (μTAS)has drawn considerable attention[3].
