Using random sample from 1 percent population survey data of 2005, this paper applies the method of relative educational position to research the functions of education of promoting human capital and signaling in China’s urban labor market. After correcting endogenous bias and sample selection bias, we find that the functions of education are both promoting the human capital and signaling for the people in the early career. However, for people in the middle and late career, education still shows these two functions for women, while for men, it can only improve the human capital.%文章利用2005年全国1%人口抽样调查数据的一个随机样本,采用相对教育位置的方法检验了在中国城镇劳动力市场上教育提升人力资本和发送信号的功能。研究发现:在纠正了能力偏误和样本选择偏差之后,对于处于职业生涯早期的男性和女性,教育的功能既体现为提升人力资本,也体现为发送信号,但到了职业生涯的中后期,教育对于男性仅仅体现为提升人力资本的功能;而对于女性而言,教育仍然体现为提升人力资本和发送信号的双重功能。
