Joule heat may damage a superconducting magnet when it is in a quenching process. The quench safety and protection for superconducting magnets is one of the focal points in magnet design. In this paper, the relationship of the quantities in a quenching process is given for adiabatic superconducting magnets, a few engineering methods are developed and some results are presented. It is seen that foe calculation accuracy of the voltage could be improved by considering the transient inductance of the normal zone.
