香港拥有东西方的城市文化，其公共空间的演变凸显了经济对都市发展的影响。香港作为购物的天堂，在有限的城市面积中，购物中心的覆盖率极高，因此，香港主要的公共空间几乎都居处于购物中心之中。购物中心的户外公共空间聚集了城市不同的设施供市民使用，因而建构了香港公共空间的特色。此空间不属于私人管理的公共空间(Privately Owned Public Space, POPS)，应该广泛地对市民开放，然而业主却在自身利益的驱使下，不断地侵犯着市民的权益。由于购物中心户外公共空间被私人擅自占用而引发了公共空间权益的争辩及讨论的热潮。以此为引导，探讨了香港公共空间的发展情况。为说明问题，购物中心的户外公共空间成了重要的案例。通过探讨公众对购物中心户外公共空间日常参与的情况，强调了私人业主对公共空间的监控及其私有化、商业化的进程与影响。%Hong Kong is a city with a mixed culture from both the West and Chinese. The urban development of Hong Kong reflects the integration from these two cultural and urban backgrounds. Hong Kong is also considered as a shopping paradise. The entire city is covered with countless shopping centers. Thus, the major form of public space is the outdoor privately owned public space (POPS) in shopping centers except public parks. Different forms of POPS are conjoined with exterior space of shopping centers and other public facilities. This has constructed the particular characteristics of public space in Hong Kong. According to laws and legislation, citizens have the rights of using outdoor POPS in shopping centers. However, due to the profits driven purpose in shopping centers, such kind of rights was exploited. The increasing conflicts between citizens and private property owners were constantly reported. Meanwhile, the occupation of outdoor POPS in Hong Kong's shopping centers has caused serious debates, including recent protests and local actions about the public rights of local residents. The public space in Hong Kong is studied to identify its privatization and commercialization in urban development. The outdoor POPS is selected as case study. Through the research on people's participations in outdoor POPS of Hong Kong shopping centers, the control of public space and how this outdoor POPS is important in Hong Kong people's daily life are discussed..
