Austin Texas is a typical American city,and St.Edward＇s University has a typical American campus.It has a complex that is quite different— it＇s known as ＂the Village＂,which includes dormitories,dining halls,and other facilities.Like a cut geode,＂the Village＂ has a ＂hard＂ brick exterior and a ＂soft＂ red glass interior.The common space in between the two halves is called ＂the Canyon＂.The architect of ＂the Village＂ is Alejandro Aravena from Chile.With the rich history of the country,local education and international insights,Aravena took advantage of both worlds and made ＂the Village＂ a success.The essence of ＂the Village＂ includes the harmonious relationship with the existing campus,combination of colors and materials,as well as the relationship between the inside and outside of common spaces.It＇s a ＂user-oriented＂ architecture that shapes an unforgettable college life for the students,which is carefully laid out but still leaves room for imagination and creativity at the same time.It is one of Aravena＇s best works,as well as a nice addition to St.Edward＇s University.%得克萨斯的奥斯汀是座典型的美国城市,而圣爱德华大学拥有一个典型的美国大学校园。这校园里有一群与众不同的建筑,称为＂村落＂,覆盖宿舍、食堂和心理辅导所等设施。外面是厚厚的砖墙,内侧则是以红色为主的玻璃,就像一块被劈开的晶石,两半之间的空间有＂大峡谷＂的称号。＂村落＂的建筑师是来自智利的亚历杭德罗·亚拉费拿（Alejandro Aravena）,其国丰富的历史背景,以及优质的本土教育和辽阔的国际视野,都是＂村落＂成功的重要元素。＂村落＂的设计重点在于与校园本身的关系,物料和颜色的配搭,以及公共空间内外的对照。这是一个以＂使用者为本＂的建筑,为塑造难忘的大学生活,既有巧妙的铺排,却又留有想像的余地,是亚拉费拿近年的佳作,也是圣爱德华校园不错的新＂成员＂。
