How to make rational use of the advantages of natural resources along the beach in Zhanjiang City, Guangdong is one of the key factors for the sustainable development of agricultural economy in Zhanjiang. A great effort has been made in Zhanjiang to develop a pioneer paddy rice variety-Teyou Haihong Aromatic Rice which can grow in the beach. The beach could meet the need of the plant growth of the rice that in return reduced the salinity of the beach soil. The strategy and measures for sustainable development and utilization of saline-alkali land included development of cultural practices for rice germplasm in the beach, introduction of some rice varieties for trial planting in the beach, and promotion of these rice varieties.
