The discovery of 1-[ 2-hydroxyethoxymethyl]-6-phenylthio-thymine (HEPT) as a compound with potent and selective in vivo activity against HIV-1[1] has led to the synthesis many new non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors.[2]
