Another global technological giant-Intel Corporationrecently announced its alliance with the well-known oilfield service provider Weatherford,stimulating the oilfield service industry.According to Colin Tait,the IT Director of Weatherford,‘cooperation with Intel and other leading IT companies allows us to expand the functions of existing oilfield technologies.With the power of cloud computing,advanced analysis and IOT,we are able to build an end-to-end digital oilfield solution,which gives us greater efficiency in the upstream oil and gas industry.’This is the third case of a global,well-known hightech or manufacturing enterprise‘crossing borders’and entering into the petroleum industry by cooperating with large oilfield service providers.The first two cases were that of GE’s acquisition of the world’s third largest oilfield service provider,Baker Hughes,at the end of October 2016,and the world’s second largest oilfield service provider Halliburton’s cooperation with the‘leading high-tech company’of Microsoft in August 2017,when they announced their joint effort to facilitate the oil and gas industry’s digital transformation.The global oilfield service industry has been experiencing‘rapid development’,and the era of major and disruptive changes has come.
