In recent years, the rising populism in the United States has brought about new risks to the country and the world. At the same time, the American political elites and the media have concocted a new version of “China threat.” China is confronted with more challenges in its external environment. Judging from the present situation, populism and the new “China threat” have the same economic and cultural root cause since both of them are a result of the serious negative impacts of globalization on American economic and social development. They also reflect the efforts of some social groups in the US to manipulate the political agenda by resorting to the so-called “conspiracy theory” and “demonizing” other social groups.
