Several new and modified analytical methods have been developed and tested to accomplish the objectives of a hydrogeochemical study conducted in the Tuy River. Results obtained using a CO;Organic phosphorus data obtained in this study by an improved HCl-H;Organic matter from anthropogenic sources differs from natural organic matter by its higher hydrogen and phosphorus content and by its lower aromaticity. Natural organic matter from the northern Tuy River tributaries (low rainfall and metasedimentary rocks) has higher aromaticity and lower thermal and chemical reactivities than that from the southern tributaries (high rainfall and metaigneous rocks). This difference indicates a higher degree of humification for the organic matter from the northern sub-basin.;The total transport of organic carbon, sulfur, nitrogen, and phosphorus to the Caribbean Sea by the Tuy River in Venezuela has an anthropogenic contribution of 57%, 54%, 62%, and 47% and their dissolved fractions correspond to 6.4%, 82%, 21%, and 12%, respectively. These human contributions to the total fluxes and the partition of these fluxes between the dissolved and suspended loads clearly show the overall complexity in evaluating human influences in many rivers around the world.
