T.pseudospiralis-infected mice demonstrated a decline in allospecific cytotoxic T lymphocyte activity, an increase in DTH reaction to alloantigens, and an enhanced pulmonary NK cell-mediated lysis of YAC-1 tumor cells. Despite the consistent increase in pulmonary NK activity, splenic NK cell-mediated lysis of the same tumor cells was not altered in infected mice.; The enhancement of pulmonary NK activity was restricted to NK-sensitive target cells and could be eliminated by injection of anti-NK agents such as cyclophosphamide, anti-NK 1.1 and anti-asialo GM{dollar}sb1{dollar} antibodies. Surprisingly, the intravenous (i.v.) injection of anti-asialo GM{dollar}sb1{dollar} antibody resulted in anaphylaxis and death of T.pseudospiralis-infected mice but not in T.spiralis-infected or normal mice. In addition, i.v. injection of excretory/secretory (ES) products of T.pseudospiralis resulted in anaphylaxis in T.pseudospiralis-infected mice, but not in uninfected or T.spiralis-infected mice. Both ES products- and anti-asialo GM{dollar}sb1{dollar} antibody-induced anaphylaxis were reversible by restoring blood volume through i.v. infusion of Hank's balanced salt solution (HBSS).
