摘要

The usefulness of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) in the design of space launch vehicles has been demonstrated. Five CFD programs are described and their accuracy are determined by comparisons with experimental data. The wind tunnel tests that were conducted have also been described. The design parameters presented include pressure distributions, longitudinal force distributions, and force and moment coefficients. Solutions were obtained for three wind tunnel geometric configurations at free-stream Mach numbers ranging from 0.6 to 3.0 and angles of attack up to 7;Based on flight condition, configuration, and computing cost considerations, recommendations are made as to the relative usefulness of each of the CFD programs in launch vehicle design applications.
