This research was conducted to design a microcomputer based system for recording soil stresses using commercially available components: personal computer, data acquisition software, analog to digital converter and pressure transducer. A special emphasis is given to the design of a low cost pressure transducer interface with a buried water bag. Pressure normal to horizontal planes within a soil profile were measured at depths varying from 6 to 32 cm. Pressure curves showing true dynamic response of soil stress level to surface traffic are presented.; Also the development of a user friendly finite element software to predict soil compaction is presented. The software is interactive and uses the hyperbolic model as the constitutive relationship. The program is written in Pascal, using pull down menus to guide the user to enter all the necessary data and to choose the type of analysis and model to run.
