Flow dynamics in the stretch of the San Jacinto river between the I-10 and railroad bridges were studied using the USEPA's WASP5 one-dimensional hydrodynamic model DYNHYD5. The river stretch was divided in to small segments to form a link-node network with three levels of complexity. Simple network represented the dredged channels and the complex networks included the wider and shallow sections. Model sensitivity analysis indicated that the river stretch, due to its depth, lack of vegetation, and sediment-removal, did not offer significant resistance to flow. Wind velocity and direction affected the flow pattern significantly. Tidal influence was considerable and the wider and shallow portions had very little movement. The complex network exhibited some deviations in flow, at certain segments due to the inadequacies of applying a 1-D model to a 2-D system.
