This study shows that the Belayim reservoir in the Badri field, Gulf of Suez, has the potential of producing more oil than expected from the last field study conducted by its operator, Gupco. In 1993, Gupco expected to be able to produce a maximum of 145 MMBO. This study shows that the Belayim can produce up to 200.5 MMBO by the end of its economic limit.; Belayim operations started in 1984, and by 1986 the reservoir pressure went below the bubblepoint pressure, prompting Gupco to initiate a waterflooding project for the reservoir. The peripheral waterflooding project put in place by 1986 did not help raise the reservoir pressure, so after further investigations an updip waterflood was started in 1990. This strategy proved effective and the pressure again rose above the bubblepoint. In 1993, Gupco conducted a field study to further develop the Belayim, and increased the original oil in place estimate to 418 MMBO and the ultimate recovery factor to 35%.; This research found that the original oil in place for the Belayim is at least 510 MMBO, dropping the ultimate expected recovery calculated in 1993 to only 28% of the newer estimate. Furthermore, this work indicates that the Belayim ultimate recovery factor is about 38% of the newer figure.; The southwestern region of the Belayim poses a question still. This area was never developed, but if proven by drilling it could raise the Belayim original oil in place to 595 MMBO. Further investigation of this area is recommended.
