A study of protocols for secure peer to peer networks.

Peer to Peer Networks are finding more and more potential applications in today's world. Current Peer to Peer Networks have not been developed with security in mind and trust the peer to behave properly on the network. However it is imperative that security features in Peer to Peer protocols be improved in order to make them more usable and trustworthy. This thesis analyzes two of the most commonly used peer to peer networks, Gnutella and Freenet, and exposes security holes in them. Suggestions have been made to improve these protocols in order to make the network more secure. A new protocol has been proposed in order to secure P2P networks. Methods to implement it have been suggested.
