This dissertation includes seven compositions during my PhD study period, comprising a variety of different instrumental works, ranging from chamber music to orchestral compositions, as well as a music-dramatical work.;All the pieces reflect on different aspects of diversity and continuation, in which the music always tries to find a new form of balance between formal clarity, dramatical directionality on one hand and diversity and multiplicity of structural developments on the other hand. Thereby, my music plays with connoted material, historic and cultural references, which are insinuated in my music without leading to a simple collage, but being integrated into different musical structures such as processes and dramatic shapes and developments.;My musical works is deeply rooted in my personal experience of reality and tries to follow the pathways of my thoughts. I have always been enthralled by the plurality of today's world, and have wanted to include this diversity in a musical language embracing many different sound worlds. These can range from contemporary classical to popular music, from found sound-objects to manufactured sonic textures.;At the same time, I am fascinated by people's capacity to experience many different sensations and perceptions of reality in everyday life, while still conceiving a coherent whole. It is my desire to develop a musical language that encompasses all these multiplicities, but in such a way as to allow the listener to navigate successfully through its labyrinthine paths.;The following seven compositions show different paths and approximations to this musical vision, each focussing on a particular aspect.
