Advancements in the area of semiconductor power devices have led to the advanced switched-mode power supplies (SMPS), which are smaller and much more efficient than the traditional linear power supplies. In order to further improve the present power electronic systems, several new methods have been proposed. These include new integrated power module technology, packing, thermal handling technology, and magnetic technology. In this dissertation, we mainly focus on integrating circuit topologies to achieve substantial improvements.;Firstly, switched-mode power supplies are explained. Basic non-isolated and isolated SMPS DC/DC converters are presented. Then, the concept of integrated power electronic converters is introduced and applied to SMPS in order to achieve very high efficiency and compactness as well as low cost. In fact, the theory of integrated switched-mode power supplies (ISMPS) is the main contribution of this dissertation.;In this dissertation, integrated switched-mode power supplies are mainly classified to boost type, buck type, and buck-boost type topologies. Other integrated SMPS configurations with two outputs are also presented. Steady state and dynamic analysis for different proposed ISMPS topologies are explained. Circuit configurations and operating modes (continuous conduct mode (CCM)-CCM, CCM-discontinuous conduct mode (DCM), DCM-CCM, and DCM-DCM) are explained in detail. Based on assumptions such as small ripple approximation, inductor voltage-second balance, and capacitor charge balance, boost integrated flyback rectifier energy storage DC/DC (BIFRED) and buck integrated forward converter are comprehensively explained as examples for steady-state and dynamic.;Lastly, applications and suitability of ISMPS in the field of uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) and electrical motor drives are investigated. For UPS applications, the proposed system consists of an integrated converter at the front-end, a full bridge DC/AC inverter at the back-end, a battery charger/discharger, and a battery bank. Three kinds of converter link models for the basic switched reluctance motor (SRM) drives are presented. Simulation and experimental results are provided to verify the proposed theory.
