With the availability of computer-assisted instruction on the rise, educators want to determine its effectiveness on increasing student achievement and whether it should be utilized at the primary level. To address these concerns, two first grade classes were compared using a pre-test and post-test on time, patterns, greater than and less than, and fractions. One class was considered the experimental group while the other class was the control group. The experimental group visited the Harcourt Brace web site to play games that reinforced the skill sets taught; the control group did not. The results showed that while both classes produced statistically significant gains in student knowledge, the experimental group's mean score on the post-test was significantly higher than the control groups.
