Performance appraisals and perceived rater credibility can have an effect on workers' job satisfaction. The purpose of this quantitative study was to explore the feedback portion of performance appraisal systems and analyze how perceived rater credibility from superiors affects job satisfaction. In addition, this study of law enforcement personnel assessed whether credibility, as perceived by employees, affects the employee's job satisfaction. Using online self-reported scales (e.g., Job Satisfaction Survey) to measure job satisfaction and a 2x2 ANCOVA for the data collection, the study suggested there were no changes in job satisfaction when related to performance appraisal feedback and perceived rater credibility. Findings also suggested that mean age and self-perceived credibility levels do not affect job satisfaction.
