摘要

This research study focuses on the impact of trauma among Indian and Pakistani families who experienced the violence of the 1947 British India Partition. Through interviews with Partition survivors and their families, I study the psychological implications of the Partition survivors' experience on intrafamilial, multigenerational, and societal relationships. This study sought answers to the following questions: (a) Were the Partition experiences and stories communicated to the survivor's family? If so, how? (b) How much does the family know about the survivor's Partition experience? The study also inquires about (c) How Partition experiences may have impacted the younger generations of Partition survivors. Using a grounded theory approach, I found selective communication patterns across generations of Partition family members.
