Empowerment, structure, process, and outcome in Magnet and nonMagnet staff nurse practice: A quantitative study.

The purpose of this causal-comparative research study was to examine, through secondary analysis of data from two nursing surveys, between-group differences in scores on the Conditions of Work Effectiveness Questionnaire (CWEQ-II) and the Essentials of Magnetism (EOM) tool for registered nurses practicing in Magnet-recognized hospitals and non-Magnet-recognized hospitals. Strength of association between CWEQ-II and EOM scores independent of Magnet Recognition was also examined. MANOVA and ANOVA results were significant ( p = .001) for registered nurse group differences on both CWEQ-II and EOM scores in Magnet-recognized and non-Magnet-recognized hospitals. Pearson r was significant (p = .01, Magnet; p = .05, non-Magnet) for strength of association between scores.
