A treatment program for ulcerative colitis.

This works proposes a treatment regiment for ulcerative colitis. Etiologically, ulcerative colitis is caused by a group of defective chromosomes. As a result, patients suffer from severe gastrointestinal related problems. Stress, although once seen as the "golden answer," has been refuted; however, science has indicated that stress plays a major role in the onset of colitis relapses---as well as intensity and frequency. Therefore, the program proposed is geared at helping the patient cope with ulcerative colitis, decrease associated anxiety/fear with illness, and stress management/reduction. The modality for this treatment follows core cognitive-behavioral concepts and techniques. For decades, this model has been shown to be effective in achieving desirable effects in this field. This treatment was created for gastroenterologists who seek to better their patients' quality of life.
