摘要

Over the last few years,Xi Jinping has been consolidating his power in the Chinese government. This paper argues that since the Xi Jinping presidency has taken place,China is increasing its commitment and role in international institutions.Just a few years ago,China had been labeled as under-participating and not adequately contributing to international institutions.In2013and prior to,they may have been correct in their analysis, the last few years, however, shows rapid increases in China's participation in global governance.China has significantly raised its financial contributions to the United Nations, has created and is pioneering in the rejuvenation of the silk road.China is the unspoken leader of the BRICS group which although is relatively young, has expanded rapidly and gained success in their plight towards multi-polarization.The creation of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank in2016shows a shift from a western-centric international banking to the creation of another center of finance. These events indicate a shift in strategy from China. From one of keeping a low profile to expanding its influence in international affairs and institutions. This paper demonstrates that global governance can be observed from a realist perspective from which states compete for influence in global governance institutions similar to the way political parties act in a democracy. The author argues that for rising states such as China to increase its political influence and economic reach,it must go through existing structures or create new global governance institutions rather than play the role of a revisionist state. This paper argues that the trend in China's recent push for participation in global governance may reflect a wider grand strategy rather than be the natural evolution of the state. Therefore, this paper analyses China's position and participation in several key global governance institutions,in particular since Xi Jinping had taken office in2013.Xi's push towards these institutions mirrors China's growing political influence in the international system and these can events can be correlated with the rise ofXi Jinping and his place in China's domestic politics. This paper demonstrates that China has increased participation in international institutions under Xi Jinping and is followed by a discussion on the motivations behind the increase.
