Effect of combine therapy of HA Injection and occlusal splints on anterior disc displacement without reductionofTMJ

Objective:The aim of the study was to compare the effectiveness of combination therapy of HA injection with occlusal splint；HA injection and Occlusal splint for the patient suffering from DDWOR of TMJ.Materials and Methods:The study was conducted in the oral and maxillofacial department of Xinjiang Medical University, china between the years 20011 to 2013.Total number of patients was 43 patients (3 males and 40 females), These Patients were divided into three groups: Group A (17 patients with HA injection and occlusal splints), Group B (13 patients with HA injection and Group C (13 patients with used occlusal splints). We compared these groups in maximum mouth opening (MMO), visual analogue scale of pain (VAS) and noise. Patient’s TMJ status and clinical symptoms were evaluated at 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months.Results:The improvement of symptoms was noted in all three groups, but Group A had a quicker improvement than the other groups, in terms of pain reduction and MMO increases.Conclusion:This study showed that combine application of HA injection and occlusal splints can reduce patient discomfort more quickly than others two use alone.
