从格雷马斯的理论解读《鬼屋传奇》

摘要

雪莉·杰克逊被誉为当代美国著名的哥特小说家。其著作《鬼屋传奇》被赞为二十世纪现代哥特小说的典范，并极大的影响了斯蒂芬金等人的创作。
　　作为法国结构主义叙事学的代表人物，语言学家及符号学家A.J.格雷马斯在符号学，语义学和叙事学等领域建树颇丰。他把文本分析分为两个层次，即表层结构和深层结构。表层结构主要涉及到文本的叙事逻辑，即文本的叙述是如何展开的;深层结构则涉及到文本蕴含的主题。前者主要在行动元模式（中）得以体现，后者则在语义矩阵中得到体现。行动元模式为语义矩阵模式的建立提供了一定的基础。
　　时下，国外对哥特小说的研究热情有增无减，但国内研究却相对滞后，《鬼屋传奇》研究上的不足正反应这一点。本文基于格雷马斯的行动元模式和符号矩阵，对小说中涉及的主要人物及其行为进行了详细的分析，总结出该文章的表层结构，即文章所隐含的行动元模式。在前者的基础上，建立起出其中所蕴含的语义矩阵。通过对语义矩阵的解析，本文作者试图发掘出隐藏在符号矩阵下的深层主题，也就是小说的深层结构。最后，不难发生活在精神已是荒原的现代的人们，在面对种种压力时，往往深陷精神困境。为了摆脱困境，很多人采用了错误甚至极端的方式。而唯有新的精神伊甸园的建立，人们方能摆脱精神困境。
　　本文作者希望这篇文章能对国内有关雪莉杰克逊以及哥特文学的研究起到一定推动作用。格雷马斯的理论不仅限于解读哥特式小说，也能运用于对其他类型小说的解读，例如侦探式小说等等。
