康拉德非洲题材小说的文化身份建构研究——康拉德本人及其两部小说中人物的建构分析

摘要

约瑟夫·康拉德(1857-1924)是一名波兰裔英国小说家。中国作家老舍称之为“一个近代最伟大的境界与人格的创造者”。无论在在艺术形式的探索还是在内容思想上，康拉德的作品都体现出了鲜明的时代特色。他在小说中对人物的挖掘影响至今。虽然学术界对康拉德及其作品做出了大量研究，但在康拉德及其两部非洲小说的研究上，却很少有系统阐释其作家本人及其两部小说中人物的文化身份在动态上的建构分析。
　　本论文从文化身份建构的角度出发，以康拉德最复杂的中篇小说《黑暗的心》和最讽刺幽默的故事《进步前哨》两篇非洲题材作品为研究对象，把对作者的分析和小说中人物分析结合起来。旨在探索康拉德及其两部非洲题材小说中人物的文化身份的建构过程、结果以及对产生的不同结果的原因阐释。在后殖民语境下，通过自我和他者两个概念，对作家康拉德及其两部小说中人物的文化身份在不同环境影响下进行构建的动态分析。
　　研究结果显示:(1)作家约瑟夫·康拉德本人成功地构建了多重文化身份;(2)两部小说中白人被构建为殖民者的文化身份失败;(3)在《黑暗的心》中，以掌舵手为代表的一类当地人被构建成奴隶的文化身份;(4)在《文明前哨》中，以高必拉为代表的当地人仍然保持原有非洲文化身份不变;(5)在《文明前哨》中，以马可拉为代表的当地人被建立起混合文化身份;(6)在《文明前哨》中，马可拉的妻子冲破男性世界对女性的束缚，被成功地建立起一种女性文化身份;(7)在《黑暗的心》中，西方女性没有建立起一种独立的文化身份，仍处于男性世界的束缚之下。
　　研究结果表明，个人的文化身份不是一成不变的，而是在各种不同因素的影响下进行不断地构建。本研究涉及到的影响因素主要包括自然环境，人文环境，社会环境以及个人因素。这些影响因素结合起来促使个人的文化身份在特定的环境中进行不断建构。
　　由此可见，在文化身份建构的角度下研究小说中重要要素“人物”，赋予了康拉德及其两部非洲题材小说新的阐释维度。本论文以研究康拉德及其两部非洲题材小说为例，在文学批评的文化研究转向下，探索研究小说中人物，尤其是殖民题材和跨文化小说中人物的新方法。
