China and Africa have had a long and fruitful relationship that dates back to the timeAfrican countries got their independence. This Sino-African relationship has bore hugebenefits for both countries especially on the trade and investment side with Chinabenefiting from the resources such as oil and petroleum that the continent has to offer andin return China has provided soft loans, helped build infrastructure and provide customerson the continent with cheap exports. This relationship is also seen in the kind of trade andinvestment relationship China has with Uganda. China today ranks as the second biggestinvestor in Uganda behind Great Britain and the two countries have continued to forgegreater ties through trade and investment. This current promising relationship is still notfraught without problems; with Ugandan traders and businessmen complaining about thecheap imports from China that are killing their businesses and with many Chinesecompanies not exporting to Uganda. These and many challenges are highlighted andrecommendations suggested such as government policy changes as well asinter-governmental, inter-trader and inter-company high level talks, discussions andagreements. The current trade and investment imbalance in the relationship between Chinaand Uganda is highlighted and steps suggested in finding a more nurturing, long lastingand more mutually beneficial trade and investment relationship. 展开▼
