The benefits of trade have been seen as different for developing countries and for developed countries, and the benefits are also different for developing countries depending on a country's income status or its food trade classification. This thesis discusses the likely outcomes of trade liberalization, specifically agricultural trade liberalization on food security especially in the Southem African Development Community (SADC) region which has for a long time been characterized by chronic food insecurity. Due to unfavorable climatic conditions, poverty, less agricultural productivity unbalanced economic development and other institutional factors, most countries in the SADC region are producing much less of their basic cereal requirements.
