The study was guided by the interactionist perspective on innovative work behavior.The study proposed the interactive relationship between contextual factors and personal factors and how they influence innovative work behavior.Specifically, the study examined a relationship between transformational leadership and innovative work behavior.Personal factors of innovative self-efficacy and intrinsic motivation and the contextual factors of transformational leadership and perceived organizational support for innovation were analyzed in terms of their influence on innovative work behavior. The interactionist perspective states that personal and contextual factors both play a role in determining innovative behaviors.The perspective is a proponent of the holistic study of the innovation process.In light of this, the study model examined whether intrinsic motivation and innovative self-efficacy would influence the relationship between perceived organizational support for innovation and transformational leadership on innovative work behavior.The study design utilized two-way rating with supervisors/managers assessing the innovative work behavior of their subordinates, while subordinates assessed the leadership style of their immediate leaders. The study sample consisted of a total of 235 (1 overall organizational leader, 20 supervisors/managers and 214 subordinates) participants from a major national organization in Botswana.Contextual factors (transformational leadership and perceived organizational support) and personal factors (intrinsic motivation and innovative self-efficacy) were found to be positively correlated to innovative work behavior.A multiple hierarchical regression analysis showed the interactive relationship between transformational leadership and perceived organizational support to a predictor of innovative work behavior.The moderation effects of intrinsic motivation and innovative self-efficacy were found to be insignificant.In conclusion, both analyzed contextual factors were shown to be individual predictors of innovative work behavior. 展开▼
