Assessment of risks connected with exposurernto electromagnetic fields at either low or radio frequenciesrnrequires appropriate evaluation of the value read on probe’srndisplay – whose variability depends on both EM field andrnmeasurement system – with respect to the actual value of thernunderlying monitored process. That can be accomplishedrnthrough a statistical investigation about whether the overcomernof reference limits which can possibly have happenedrnis merely a transient effect of measurement uncertaintyrnwhich sums up with random process variation, or rather arnmore serious stable condition which calls for countermeasures.rnTo that end, it is required that the probability distributionrnof the monitored process be obtained from the set of measuredrndata, which can be done by taking out of them the fluctuationrndue to measurement itself. Such methodology fallsrnunder the generic name of deconvolution, after the operationrnused to separate the two contributions, and requires a preliminaryrnmeasurement campaign for the evaluation of thernstatistical distribution of data. This paper presents the mentionedrnmethodology and provides an example pertaining thernevaluation of the electromagnetic field in urban area.
