Investigation of Critical Success Factors in e-Business Adoption by Chinese Travel Firms: A Resource-based Perspective

Understanding the critical successful factors (CSFs) for e-business adoption is an important challenge to Chinese travel firms, and is likely to be increasingly considered when IT investment decisions are made. In accordance with resource-based view (RBV), the paper develops a framework of CSFs that influence travel e-business adoption from three dimensions of strategy, resources and capabilities. From a survey of 10 Chinese travel firms with successful e-business practices, this paper used analytic hierarchy process (AHP) to identify CSFs of traditional firms and online firms respectively.These results show that strategic initiative, IT human resources, sharing information capabilities and collaborative process capabilities are necessary critical successful factors. The result further discovers that traditional firms focus on the optimization of internal resources while online firms emphasize the integration of external and internal resources. From a RBV perspective, this paper contributes to offer the best practical implications to develop travel e-business in China.
