APPLICATION OF ITS TO ROAD NETWORK OPERATIONS: A WAY TO ENHANCE INFRASTRUCTURE MANAGEMENT AND FACE NEW CHALLENGES

This session will reflect the work that has been done during these four past years and it is summarized in sections 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4. The work has focused on the relationship between ITS and Road Network Operation from various standpoints: methodological, economical and technical. Most recent evolution of ITS has been introduced into our work such as community network, probe data vehicles or the emergence of electric vehicles. The question of deployment of ITS in developing countries has been a constant concern all along the development of the work program.After a brief presentation of the overall work program, three presentations (summarized in sections 3.2, 3.3, 3.4) will be presented to illustrate the work of the committee's working groups. It will be followed by a presentation of the new RNO-ITS Web Manual, an upgraded web-versions of the Association’s ITS Handbook and Network Operations (RNO) Handbook (see section 2.4). Then a selection of two or three best papers from authors external to the committee will be presented.A discussion with the audience will follow with the aim to provide answers to open questions. Tracks for discussion are provided in section 4.Finally, some conclusions and tracks for thought that could be studied in-depth during the next cycle will be proposed.
