Rhineland-Palatinate (RLP) is a federal state in the southwest of Germany with an averagepopulation density of 200 persons per square kilometre. The Modal Split for commutingwith the car is 55 % in RLP, but it is up to 80 % for suburbs and rural areas with generally1.2 passengers per car. For carpooling 140 “Commuter Park & Ride areas (CPR)” exist inRLP. The paper presents findings of the research project “KoPeMi – Collaborativecommuter traffic at Commuter Park & Ride (CPR) with location-based-service (LBS)assistance”. It is funded by the Transport Ministry of RLP (ISIM) and carried out in cooperationwith the State Mobility Enterprise (LBM) and flinc.org. It focusses on theacceptance by commuters and the effects of the LBS for finding carpooling agreementswith people from the region. For a selection of CPR, the behavioural change is evaluatedex-ante and ex-post with face-to-face and online (CAWI) interviews and spatial analysis ofthe interviews and LBS data. As an innovative approach, dynamic timetables are offered,to give information about pending car rides that intersect with the requested parking area.This approach enhances the “individual motorised traffic” to a “collaborative motorisedtraffic” and could be an endorsement for regions with a lack of public transport.
