An attempt to evaluate primary energy requirement for construction, operation and maintenance of a biogasbased power generating system comprising of a floating drum type biogas unit and a dual fuel operated enginegenerator set and net energy production from. such a system has been made. The energy embodied in the biogasplant has been determined by using process analysis method. For determining energy embodied in dual fuelengine generator, energy intensity method has been employed. Incremental energy provided by the biogasplant has been estimated in equivalent primary energy terms. Primary energy of net inorganic fertiliser saved byway of using digested slurry in place of inorganic fertilisers and primary energy of net dung cakes had the rawdung been used partially for production of dung cakes and / or farm yard manure have been considered in thisanalysis. Energy embodied in the biogas plants show economy of scale. Biogas based power generation systemhas been found to be a net energy producer.
