SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION AND VERNACULAR ARCHITECTURE OF IRAN

All through the history, man has been always trying to adopt his dwellings to the environment in order tocreate a suitable condition for his survival; in fact his depends on climatic and geographic locations. Due to thefour different climates, hot and humid, hot and dry, temperate and humid, and cold; Iran has been the site. ofdiverse architecture, especially in vernacular dwelling design. Use of native materials, which minimize,environmental impact and reduces the spent energy, this has resulted in better sustainability of suchconstruction. In the following paper, we will attend to study the Iranian vernacular architecture in that climate,which considers low energy design and environmental sustainability, will evaluate the deficiency of modernarchitecture in above climate, and briefly will elaborate on the unsuitable materials with their regionalconditions. This paper will research unsuitable construction design method, high-energy consumption, andenvironment destruction, and at the end, an overall conduction and modern methods of energy consumption inconstruction will be presented.
