OCCUPANT COMFORT ASSESSMENT STUDIES OF BIOCLIMATIC SKYSCRAPER IN A TROPICAL CLIMATE

This paper presents the results of a post-occupancy study of the three high-rise office buildings whichfocuses on occupant comfort assessment of the internal environments through a questionnaire-based survey- focusing on thermal and visual comfort aspects. The discussion of results include field measurementsof basic environmental parameters focusing on the naturally-ventilated to semi-opened spaces in thesebuildings and additional observations of fabric adjustment by occupants and the level of environmentalservices. The results reinforce the limitations of daylighting and natural ventilation strategies due tooccupant expectation and comfort under a tropical climate, the importance of selective filtering andbalancing conflicting strategies in the envelope design, and the close relationship not only betweenthermal and visual comfort of occupants but thermal aspects of the environment and perceived air quality.
