The paper deals with resonant effects in quantum models of PV structures revealed recently by authors ascontact states in heterojunctions and canalized states in thin films, and discusses their possible utilization forimprovement of solar cell performances. Contact states arise when the exponentially decreasing solution inthe first lattice of the heterojunction matches the exponentially decreasing solution of the second lattice onthe contact surface, representing in fact, appearance of an energy level within the band-gap of theheterojunction. In thin films, canalized states being localized between the two layers of the film, behave as aphoton container. Having such exceptional properties, these effects are in favor of higher efficiency of solarcells.
