Solar Photovoltaic Plants, Biomass gasifier plants , small hydro power plants, wind electric generators andother power supply systems are finding their own utility for remote area electrification in India. They havedemonstrated their technical viability and have been meeting their operations and maintenance costs. Therecent trends are to provide hybrid remote area power supply system (H-RAPSS), mainly wind/SPV, forremote area electrification in India. They can provide reliable and economical grid quality power to meet thedecentralised demand in remote areas. Other combinations based on SANDIA laboratory guidelines couldshow the way to Indian planners to put together a Rural Electrification plan for the 18,000 remote areavillages.
