The Development of the Pre-Service Teachers’ Renewable Energy Knowledge and Awareness in Different Applications and the Comparison of the Results

摘要

The researches about natural energy sources which are alternative to the fossil and nuclear fuels posed sustainable and renewable energy concepts. Renewable energy is defined that it is an energy resource which is available exactly in the latter day in the evolution of the earth. Fossil fuels that were used frequently are nonrenewable, that is, they draw on finite resources that will eventually dwindle, becoming too expensive or too environmentally damaging to retrieve. In contrast, renewable energy resources—such as wind and solar energy—are constantly replenished and will never run out. When the benefits of renewable energy are considered, it is important that students’ to have enough information about this topic and to have positive attitude towards this topic. For this aim, students’ who attend the 5th class of Hacettepe University, Department of Chemistry Education basic knowledge and awareness about renewable energy examined and the results were evaluated. It was observed that students’ knowledge and awareness about renewable energy increased at the end of the activities (project-based learning, problem-based learning, portfolio applications…) related to this topic.
