HOUSING INDOOR ENVIRONMENT IN THE HISTORICAL URBAN TISSUE. STUDY CASE: HAVANA

The integral rehabilitation of central urban areas is a main condition for sustainability, allowing the preservation of the heritage and taking advantage of the urban land as well as the existing facilities and infrastructure in the city centre. Urban microclimate in those urban areas has been recently studied and some contradictions among the results achieved by different authors arise from these researches. The present paper offers the results of a field work in order to explore the environmental indoor conditions in housing in existing multifamily located in Havana Centre, focusing on daylight. According to the results achieved, the existing historic urban tissue hardly satisfies the indoor environment requirement, especially daylight, and so, architectural and urban indexes should be reconsidered, despite the intention of urban planners to keep the existing urban fabric.
