Knowledge Domain Visualization of Patent Citation Analysis (1981-2001)

Patent analysis is a particularly promising avenue for further research and development. Although patent analysis has a long history, there is a rapidly increase interest in incorporating information visualization and especially knowledge domain visualization techniques into the patent analysis practice. In this paper, we describe an application of knowledge domain visualization techniques to the domain of patent citation analysis as our first step to identify the salient structure of this evolving knowledge domain.
