Art and Artificial Life

摘要

The field of Artificial Life and the emerging technologies of artificial evolution and adaptive systems are seen as providing new artistic mediums, forms of expression and sources of inspiration. It is argued that the field of Artificial Life therefore acts as a unique meeting point where the traditionally distinct cultures of Art and Science may converge and mutually reinforce each other. Works of both pioneering and contemporary artist/scientists that exploit ideas and technologies related to those of Artificial Life and Adaptive Systems are discussed, and some of the philosophical and aesthetic issues raised by these works of art are considered and explored.
