The use of Geographical Information Systems (GIS), as powerful tools of analysis, prediction, strategy planning, and explanation of almost every event that occurs on earth, have allowed the development and integration of maps with databases. These allow operations of consultation, query, statistical studies and stage handling, with the benefits of the geographical analysis and the graphics visualization that only maps offer. These GIS advantages permitted the Faculty of Architecture Research Institute (IFA), University of Zulia, to develop arid supply a Geo-Referenced Information System for the Regional System of Health, of the Zulia State Government. The developed GIS consisted in organizing geo-political units and populated centers of Zulia State and its demographic characterization, as well as the digital surveying maps of twelve principal cities that conform the Maracaibo-Eastern Coast of the Lake axis, and its specific databases. The objective of GIS is the implementation of an automated spatial analysis tool of the Health Project of the Zulia region. This system will be used as support, in order to generate an instrument for evaluation and intervention of the Health System of the State.
