Application of LCC and LSA Techniques for Profitability in Surface Mining Activity

The cost of a system of equipment over its planned lifetime is its Life Cycle Cost (LCC) of ownership. The LCC is the sum total of direct, indirect, recurring, non-recurring, and other related costs, which are estimated to be incurred and include costs associated with design, research and development, investment, operations, maintenance, and support of a system over it's life cycle. In determining the LCC of a system, it is necessary to consider overall maintenance concept ranging from commercial maintenance infrastructure to a dedicated maintenance infrastructure. LCC helps engineers think like MBAs and act like engineers for making the correct selection of equipment for achieving the lowest long term cost of ownership to make the system profitable. The Logistic Support Analysis (LSA) provides a foundation for the Integrated Logistics Support program by generating source data and maintenance plans, which will direct other logistic support system elements such as training, engineering coordination and provisioning spare and consumables. Application of these techniques in production system will lead the system to enhanced Life Cycle Profit. In this paper attempt has been made to highlight the areas where these techniques can be applied and how.
