Poly (D, L-lactide) macromonomers (MC) carrying a methacryloyl end groups were synthesized by bulk ring-opening polymerization of D, L-lactide (D, L-LA) using stannous 2-ethyl hexanoate (Sn (Oct )_2 ) as a catalyst, and 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) as a co-initiator. The MCs were characterized by FT-IR and 1H NMR. Graft co-polymers from MC (molar ratio of HEMA/D, L-LA was 1:80) and N-vinyl pyrrolidone (NVP) were obtained by solution free radical polymerization. The effects of the co-monomer molar ratios on the structure and properties of the graft copolymers were studied by FT-IR,~1H NMR, mechanical strength and surfacial contact angle measurements. Results showed that with the molar content of MC increased, the strain strength and surfacial contact angle of the copolymer both increased. The results will lead to better understanding for their application to the tissue engineering.
