Pseudo-dynamic tests were conducted on two-story timber structures with plywood-sheathed shear walls with opening of different configuration, and the effects of the racking strength of the first and second stories to the seismic response of the structures were studied. The specimens had 3-by 3m in width and depth and 6m in height. It had 3-by 3m plywood-sheathed shear walls with an opening with different configuration. Test results were compared with those of the individual shear walls that consist of the first story of the specimen. It was found that the pseudo-dynamic test of a single shear wall element with the mass supported by that shear wall (added that of the upper story) is appropriate to estimate the seismic performance of shear walls. The test results were also compared with the simulation by time-history earthquake response analysis, and they showed good agreement with the test results.
